Link transfer confirmation emails
Verifying your recipients identity
What are confirmation emails?
When you click the 'Transfer' button, the system initiates the upload process to our servers. Your files are encrypted when they are being transferred (TLS) and when they are stored (AES-256). Once your files are safely stored, they can only be accessed using the unique links sent to the sender and recipient.
You will receive two email notifications:
-
An upload confirmation email once the upload is successfully completed.
-
A download conformation email when the recipient downloads the transfer.
These emails are fully automated, and triggered by specific actions (replace 'automated' with 'magic', if you'd like to keep the illusion going).
The first email, the one you receive when your upload is complete, is triggered when your entire transfer is uploaded safely onto our servers. We make absolutely sure that the entire upload is stored on our servers before we let you know that's the case via email. This could create a short delay in receiving said email as it flies through cyberspace toward your inbox.
The second email you receive, once a recipient has downloaded a transfer, is triggered by your recipient's actions. They need to click the download link in the email we send them, which will open their browser and take them straight to the transfer. Once they have downloaded the entire transfer, this triggers the download confirmation email you'll receive.
Link transfer confirmation emails
When sending a link transfer from a WeTransfer account, we send a confirmation email so that you know with confidence if and when someone has downloaded your files.
However, please bear in mind that you will only receive one confirmation email for each transfer, which is triggered the first time it is fully downloaded.
Here's how it works:
You create a transfer link as per normal, and share it however you'd like.
The very first time your transfer is fully downloaded, we'll send you an email to let you know about the good news, which should look something like this:
From there, you can view the transfer in your transfer history, where you can see more information about the transfer, or take some action on it, such as changing the expiry date.
If you send out a lot of link transfers, and are feeling a little overwhelmed by the amount of notifications coming into your inbox, you can disable these emails by clicking the 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom of these emails:
* Please note that only the confirmation emails for link transfers can be unsubscribed. There is no way to unsubscribe from the confirmation emails for email transfers.
Verifying your recipients identity
Our latest feature, Download Verification allows you to verify the identity of the people you send transfers to. This gives you more control and peace of mind that your recipient is who they say they are. This feature is available to all Ultimate users and those on Enterprise and Teams plans. Once verified, your recipients will gain access to your transfer and you’ll receive a confirmation email once the file is downloaded. If you're interested in this feature, our Help Centre article takes you through the whole process: How to Track Your Downloads with Download Verification.
