Comments let anyone with access to your transfer share feedback directly on individual files — no email threads, no back and forth. It's a great way to get quick reactions or approvals on your work.
Comments are available on all WeTransfer accounts and are turned on by default whenever you send a transfer.
Enabling or disabling comments before you send
When creating a transfer, comments are switched on automatically. If you'd prefer to send without them:
- Set up your transfer as usual.
- Under View options, find Comments allowed.
- Click to expand and select Comments disabled if you'd like to turn them off.
- Continue and send your transfer as normal.
💡 Tip: Not sure yet? You can always change this after the transfer has been sent — your choice isn't locked in.
Changing the comments setting after sending
- Go to Transfers and open the transfer you want to update.
- Scroll to Extra settings and click Comments to expand it.
- Select either Comments allowed or Comments disabled.
⚠️ Note: Disabling comments hides any existing comments from viewers, but doesn't delete them. If you re-enable comments later, they'll reappear.
How recipients leave a comment
- The recipient opens the transfer preview link and clicks on any file.
- In the file viewer, they'll see an Add comment... field in the bottom right corner.
- They type their comment and hit send.
If the recipient isn't logged in to WeTransfer, they'll be prompted to enter their name and email address before they can comment. They don't need a WeTransfer account — just a name and email. Anyone can still view files and read existing comments without signing in.
Keeping track of comments
Each file thumbnail in the transfer preview shows a comment count badge, so you can see at a glance which files have feedback.
As the transfer owner, you'll receive an email notification each time someone leaves a new comment.
Editing and deleting comments
Recipients can edit or delete their own comments. Transfer owners can delete anyone's comments.
To edit a comment, click on it to open it inline, make your changes, and hit the blue ✓ to save. Edited comments will show an "Edited" label.
To delete a comment, click the trash icon that appears on the comment.
