We do everything we can to offer every single person around this planet we call home the fastest downloads possible. Despite our best efforts, though, there are some factors which can decrease your download speed with WeTransfer.
Just before we dive in; there are typical “busy times” where everything will be slightly slower as your network at peak usage. Avoid peak hours after work and in the morning if you know you're not on the world's fastest internet connection.
-
Sharing your internet connection with other people, between multiple apps and on several devices will also make the speed drop.
-
You'll also need to know what your download speed is, so you know what speeds you can expect with WeTransfer. You can perform a speed test online, using many websites, such as this one: speedtest.net. Make sure you change the server to Dublin if you are in Europe, and to New York if you are outside of Europe.
-
You should also consider using a different browser to download a transfer, or use your own browser's Incognito or Private browsing mode.
-
If at all possible, test if your download speed improves after you temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall software.
-
If you're using our service on a corporate network, or connecting to your organization's network while working from home, you may need to check with your system administrator if there are any limitations to using our service from your workplace. If necessary, ask them to contact us directly for technical support. You could check these suggestions about blockages too.
- It is possible that your Internet Service Provider is throttling your download speeds. Your ISP might be mistakingly flagging your download activity as suspicious and slowing down or blocking your transfer. Installing a VPN would bypass these measures.
Please keep in mind that if you receive intercontinental transfers, this may affect the download speed as well. If you've no idea what could be causing your download speed to decline, or if you've got any other issues, our Support team would love to help out. They'd love you even more if you could attach a screenshot of your speed result from step 2 of the above troubleshooting steps.
