When uploading a RAW photo (such as a .DNG file) from your iPhone, you might notice the file arrives as a smaller JPEG. This is not caused by WeTransfer — we never compress, resize, or modify your files in any way. What you upload is exactly what your recipient downloads.
The conversion actually happens on your iPhone itself. By default, iOS automatically converts photos to a more compatible format when sharing them with external apps. The good news is there's a simple fix.
How to upload your original RAW file
When selecting photos from the WeTransfer app or website on your iPhone:
- Tap the upload button and select Photo Library
- Tap the … (three dots) button in the bottom-left corner of the screen
- Tap Options
- Under Format, select Current
- If a Size option is visible, select Full Size
⚠️ The Size option may not always appear — that's fine! Setting Format to Current is the important step. Avoid leaving it on Automatic, as this will cause iOS to convert the file before it reaches WeTransfer.
