Hi there! Sorry to confront you with some big red text like this, but we want to inform you that we no longer support the Mac app. The app is still available to download, and should function as expected, but if something goes haywire, we're not going to be in a position to help out. Sorry to disappoint!
We have, however, answered some commonly asked questions which should help you out in the meantime:
- Where is the Mac app?
- I'm not seeing any notifications from the Mac app?
- What's the upload limit with the Mac app?
- Can I upload folders with the Mac app?
- Can I get confirmation emails with the Mac app?
- Where is the link I created with the Mac app
Where is the Mac App?
Our Mac app lives in your menu bar. After downloading our app in the App Store, you will always find the app waiting for you in the top right corner.
I'm not seeing any notifications from the Mac app?
If you are not receiving notifications when your upload is completed, please make sure to adjust your settings. Here's a little context on how to handle notifications, as Apple support explains it.
What's the upload limit with the Mac app?
If you're using our Mac app without a Pro account, you get to upload up to 2GB worth of files with the app. Once you're logged in with your Pro credentials, you'll be able to send up to 200GB per transfer.
So the exact same limits apply as they would on WeTransfer.com!
Can I upload folders with the Mac app?
Yup! It's possible to upload folders with the Mac app. All you need to do is drag and drop your folder onto the Mac app icon, located on your device's menu bar. It's that easy ;)
Can I get confirmation emails with the Mac app?
There's no email confirmation for our Mac app if you're signed out of a WeTransfer account. Our app is built to share link transfers, and therefore, if your transfers aren’t linked to an account, we won’t have an inbox to send a confirmation email to!
If you do have an account with us, free or Pro, you’ll receive a confirmation email to notify you of the first time that your transfer has been fully downloaded. We won’t send you a confirmation every single time your transfer is downloaded. If you’d like to learn more about link transfer confirmation emails, as well as how to unsubscribe from them, please do see here.
However, be aware that it is up to you to copy the download link, or select the option to automatically copy all links to your clipboard. Click on the app icon, and after that on the little cogwheel, to find your 'Preferences'.
This is where you'll find the option to "Auto copy link to clipboard". That will do exactly what it says on the tin - by making sure all your future uploads are copied automatically to your clipboard.
It is up to you to copy the link or keep track of it in any way that's suitable for you. It is also up to you to share it with whomever you like, since we don't send an email to you or the recipient.
Where is the link I created with the Mac app?
You need to copy the download link yourself when an upload is completed. However, in order to keep you in your flow, we do show you your latest upload - even if you don't have any accounts with us!
If you need to go back in time just a little bit more and want to retrieve a link you've sent out earlier, there's not much we can do. By using an app like Kopypasta or any other tool that keeps track of your copied text, you may be able to retrace your steps and find back the transfer.
If you're logged into your WeTransfer account (free or Pro) via the app, we'll show you your last 5 transfers either way.
Keeping all links safe and findable is something we trust you with. So please make sure to copy those links when a transfer is complete, and share the download link anywhere you like.
Keep in mind that you will only receive a confirmation email the first time someone fully downloads the shared link.
