Enable two-factor authentication on your WeTransfer account

Two-factor authentication, sometimes shortened as 2FA, adds another layer of security to your WeTransfer account. Once set up, you'll be asked to enter a code via an authentication app when you log into your account as an extra step.

Let's get this set up. (just make sure nobody is looking over your shoulder!)

Step 1: Download an authentication app

Step 2: Enable 2FA on your account

Step 3: Save your recovery codes

Step 1: Download an authentication app

You'll need to download an authentication app to your mobile phone. The one that we recommend is Google Authenticator, which you can download here:

  • Google Authenticator for Android
  • Google Authenticator for iOS

Step 2: Enable 2FA on your account

Navigate to this area of your WeTransfer account:

Name > Account > Password and security

And click the blue 'Turn on' button.

If you've already got the Google Authenticator app installed, click 'Next'. If not, follow the link for your device, install the app, and then click 'Next.'

Then, open up Google Authenticator, and click the '+' icon. Scan the barcode on your screen, and enter the 6-digit code that follows.

2FA is now enabled on your account!

Step 3: Save your recovery code

The next step is very important, because if you're unable to log into your WeTransfer account via your authentication app, you'll need to enter in your recovery code. Please, please make sure that you print this codes out, save it somewhere real safe, and don't share it with anyone. Even your dog. And especially your cat.

If you lose your recovery codes, we would be unable to provide you with assistance in getting them back - it is up to you to keep these codes safe.

Logging in with 2FA enabled

Once you've got 2FA set up, the next time you log into your account, you'll be asked to enter a code via your authentication app.

Here's an example of how that looks with Google Authenticator:

Please note that these codes refresh automatically after 30 seconds, and are valid for 60 seconds.

Disabling 2FA

While we don't recommend it for the obvious security reasons, if you'd like to disable two-factor authentication on your WeTransfer account, simply click 'Turn off' while in your 'Password and security' panel.

You'll be asked to enter your account's password to confirm, and you're done!
