Important note: This update removes support for migrating journals from previous generations of Paper (v1.0 - v3.6.10). Upgrading from those old versions will result in a loss of legacy content. Please export your content from Paper (v1.0 - v3.6.10) prior to upgrading to Paper 4.5.0. Upgrading from any 4.0+ versions (since Nov. 2017) is fully supported.
Bug fixes in this release:
- Zombie pages! Deleted pages in synced journals (on iOS 13) have been coming back from the grave. We found the antidote. Your sketches are safe.
- Default journal templates were vanishing when synced. Now those templates stay put.

This update contains a few good bug fixes:
- For some users, iCloud synced journals failed to load. No data was lost, but the journals were not accessible. This is now fixed.
- Sometimes the canvas view would enter the upside down state after returning from another app. It was an interesting issue, but we’ve seen stranger things.
- The color mixer would sometimes change unexpectedly when switching between pages.
- In some cases, when using Apple Pencil, the canvas setting for finger touches was not recognized. That’s fixed, too.

The new Blend tool offers quick access to a feature that was previously only available when using a connected stylus. Blend and blur the ink in your sketches to soften edges and smoothly combine colors.

- Duplicating a cut image would result in “squaring-off” the edges. We’ve fixed that, too.

- Changing a color swatch in 4.3.1 would trigger an irreversible loss of custom color palette data. Our team regrets releasing this bug and we encourage you to upgrade to 4.3.2 immediately.
- Duplicating a page with a background color would result in a change to the page’s background color. This is now fixed.
- Cutting images with the Collage Tool would result in large file sizes. We’ve optimized image storage for this case and significantly reduced the associated file sizes.

We’ve also added an Unsplash integration so you can search thousands of beautiful photographs right from the comfort of your personal journals.

This version also fixes a rendering bug for text notes, and should improve the reliability of the pinch-to-zoom gesture.
There are also some impressive optimizations we were able to make which should improve overall speed and performance.

The Diagram Tool has relearned an old trick: arrowheads. You can add arrowheads to strokes created with the Diagram Tool by holding still for a moment at the end of any stroke. Then just tap to save one or both of the arrowheads that appear.

It includes an “unlock hidden content” flow, mainly for support to help people track down missing 3.X content. It also has some upgrades to the FiftyThree Pencil dialog. We aren’t broadcasting those changes, though. Here are the public release notes:
4.0.7 addresses a few bugs. Here’s what’s included:
- Fix to address the most common app crashing bug.
- Export fix: single page filenames now properly reflect their page number.
- Export fix: sharing pages to the Paste app via share extension is working again.
- iOS 11 drag and drop: exported drawings via drag and drop now respect the “include background color” setting.

4.04 contains these fixes:
- Paper would always reset to the first color palette. Now Paper keeps your palette in place.
- Tapping on the canvas would sometimes cause a Cut action. All fixed. Now your taps are just taps.
- Tap-to-fill and tap-to-cut Smart Shapes was unreliable, especially when using Apple Pencil. Both of those actions are easier now.
- Tossing a cut region to delete it is a fast and fun way to delete things. Now you can do it even if you’re zoomed in.
- When using a stylus, if your finger was set to Draw, Paper would blend instead. We fixed that.
