Paper Essentials
The original tools were sold as Paper Essentials until February 2015 when the tools were made free for all.
Your previous purchase of Paper Essentials enables you to access to the Diagram, Cut, and Fill tools in Paper 5 if you're signed in to iTunes with the same Apple ID. Tap on the Settings icon top right, then "Support" and on the next screen tap on the "Restore Purchases" button.
Legacy accounts
Paper, Paper 2, and Paper 3 users who may or may not have created a Paper account before November 30, 2017, are considered to be Legacy users. Legacy users will have access to the Diagram, Cut, and Fill tools for free.
To establish your Legacy Status, please make sure that you've updated to the latest version of Paper and send us your Diagnostic Report.
To send your Diagnostic Report:
- Tap on the Settings icon (three lines).
- Tap on top "Support".
- On the next screen, tap on "Send Diagnostic Report".
An email window will pop up. Please mention that you're requesting Legacy status in the body of the email. Once we have your Diagnostic Report, we can send you a link that will unlock the Diagram, Cut, and Fill tools.
If you don't see "Send Diagnostic Report": You need to have at least one mail account set up to send your log files to Paper Support. Tap on your device's general Settings app and scroll to "Accounts & Passwords". On the next screen, you'll see the accounts you've created listed. Please add a mail to one of those accounts.
Paper 4.5 removes support for migrating journals from previous generations of Paper (v1.0 - v3.6.10). Upgrading from those old versions to Paper 4.5 will result in a loss of legacy content. Please export your content from Paper (v1.0 - v3.6.10) prior to upgrading to Paper 4.5. Upgrading from any 4.0+ versions (since Nov. 2017) is fully supported.
Please feel free to open a support ticket if you have questions about a Legacy account.
Backup vs Sync
Journal Sync was a completely new feature introduced in Paper 4.2+ that enables a user to sync their Paper Journal content across all their iOS devices via their iCloud accounts.
The Paper 2 and Paper 3 Backup & Restore service enabled a user to backup from iPad to iPad or iPhone to iPhone. This service was retired on March 27, 2018.
