We understand that sometimes you may need to download a file after the transfer has expired. To help with that, we’ve introduced a feature that allows you to recover expired transfers.
Recovering expired transfers
If the sender has made their transfer Recoverable it can be recovered for a limited time after it expires. Here’s how to do it:
- Access your expired transfer from the download link or directly from your sent/received transfer list in your account.
- If recovery is available, you’ll see an option to recover the transfer.
- Click the recovery button to restore the transfer and download it.
Please keep in mind:
-
The ability to recover an expired file is available only to Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plan users. If you’re not on this plan, you can upgrade to access this feature. Clicking the recovery button will direct you to the checkout page to upgrade.
-
The recovery window depends on the size of the transfer:
-
Files smaller than 256 MiB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry.
-
Files larger than 256 MiB can be recovered for up to 90 days after expiry.
-
-
Act quickly, as transfers outside their respective recovery windows cannot be restored.
Why am I not seeing the recovery option?
If you don’t see the recovery option, it can be because of one of the following reasons:
- Recovery was not enabled when the transfer was originally sent
-
The recovery window (90 days for larger files, one year for smaller files) has expired.
- The transfer has been deleted by the sender
In this case, the files can no longer be recovered, as they have been permanently removed from our servers.
Setting the recovery option
Please note: If the transfer was created before the recoverability option was introduced, it will not be recoverable.
When you create a new transfer, the recovery option is enabled by default, allowing the transfer to be recovered after it expires. You can choose to disable this feature if you prefer. Here's what you need to know:
- You make this choice during the upload process. To make a transfer non-recoverable, uncheck the Recoverable box before completing the upload. Once the transfer is uploaded, you can no longer edit its recovery status.
- If you change your mind, you can delete the transfer from your list to prevent recovery.
